The St. Augustine Experience

Lindsey and I took a little vacation to the oldest town in America....and it is in Florida. The town is called St. Augustine, and it was founded in 1565! It was founded by the Spanish back in the days of Ponce de Leon's search for the fountain of youth. The historic part of town is really neat, there is an old Spanish fort that was built in the 1500's, called the Castillo de San Marcos, it served five different nations and was never once defeated in battle. The old town has been reconstructed with the oldest school house in the United States, and lots of restaurants and shops. However, if you think that the oldest city in America is all this town has to offer, you are wrong. Located in St. Augustine is the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum (the one from the t.v. show) and we went. The problem was that we went there first, and the museum was a total let down. It cost way too much money, was just a big house of junk, and it was hard to believe anything after it. Ripley's even offered a ghost tour through the town, but we didn't take it. One more unique thing about St. Augustine is that it is definitely the 'South'. The food was soaked in grease, and everybody was missing a few teeth, said y'all, fixin, and everyone, men or women had at least one piece of camouflage clothing. Over all we really liked the town and the old fort and history there is really something amazing. Above is a small slide show of our vacation.

I had no idea where the oldest town was, now I do. Looks fun. We might have to try that one out. If it's within driving distance we usually try to visit. I too noticed that you're showing Lindsey. You look great!

I feel weird commenting on my own blog. If any of you are interested in visiting St. Augustine, you may want to reconsider. While the buildings are interesting and the fort is pretty cool, the people that it attracts are...interesting. I think this is the place that Jeff Foxworthy gets his material. You know your a redneck if...you think Ripley's Museum is impressive.
